GUIDE

Prepare your BOQ for digital tracking

MradiQ reads a bill of quantities as it comes — Excel or CSV, several bills in one workbook. A few habits make the extraction cleaner and the review faster.

1. One work item per row

Each priced item should sit on its own row with an item reference, a description, a unit, a quantity, a rate and an amount. Descriptions can run over several lines; MradiQ joins continuation rows to the item above.

2. Keep units consistent

Use the same spelling for the same unit throughout — m², m³, kg, nr, item. Measured quantities are what progress and claims are checked against later, so a clear unit on every line matters.

3. Give each bill its own sheet and its own total

Put each bill (for example Substructure, Walkway, Drainage) on its own sheet and keep the bill’s stated total at the bottom. After upload, MradiQ compares every bill’s stated total with the sum of the lines it extracted, so you can see at once whether anything was missed.

4. Separate prices from narrative

Preliminaries written as contract prose, cover sheets and summary sheets are recognised and left out of the costed lines. Lump sums should carry the word ITEM (or similar) and an amount, so they are treated as lump sums rather than measured work.

5. Avoid merged cells in the priced rows

Merged cells across quantity, rate or amount columns make columns hard to read reliably. Merging in headings is fine.

6. Review before you approve

MradiQ suggests a standard cost code for every line, with its confidence. Confirm the confident matches, correct the doubtful ones, and only then approve the baseline — the approved BOQ becomes the reference every later commitment and claim is measured against.
